Dr Victoria Delgado Leiden, The Netherlands    02 January 2022

Multimodality CV imaging is essential in the diagnosis and management of patients with HF.

Multimodality imaging is used first to phenotype the HF based on LVEF.

Other measures of LV systolic function such as global longitudinal strain may better reflect the functional consequences of structural alterations.

Once HF has ben phenotyped, the underlying etiology should be assessed and in this case, multimodality imaging plays a central role.

Coronary CT angiography should be considered to rule out the presence of CAD as the underlying cause of HF in patients with low likelihood.

When suspecting nonischemic cardiomyopathy, other imaging techniques providing information on tissue characterization, metabolic activity and inflammatory activity have a major role to diagnose the etiology of HF.
